Jeremiah 1:6-8

Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth.” But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’; for to all to whom I send you, you shall go, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, declares the Lord.”

Living As a Young Adult Christian

Young adults are seen as more and more incapable with each passing generation. But Christians are told to live differently than the world (Romans 12:2 - Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect). Low expectations are put on us and we accept them as normal. We even put these low expectations on ourselves.

We hide behind our doubt and fear and tell ourselves we will try when we are older, we will care when we are more mature. However, these are the years that count as it does not get easier to follow Christ as you get older, you need to start now. When we give in to God’s lead and trust His plan, we can accomplish great things. Jeremiah doubted himself saying that he was only a youth. The Lord’s response should be empowering to any young adult Christian. He informs Jeremiah that everything He tells him to do he will be able to do. God also comforts him by saying that He will always be with him and will deliver him. It can be hard to know what to do or how to live your young adult life for Christ though Christian young adult books are great resources for those looking to live their best life for Him. With empowering messages and challenges these books will help you on your Christian walk with Christ in this world.

The Study Room’s Young Adult Books

At The Study Room we have a good selection of books for young adults and teens. These books can be found in the Young Adult subsection at the end of our family section. These books are great resources for any teen or young adult. The variety of themes these books have let you choose what book suits you most in your Christian walk or life path. I just finished reading Do Hard Things by Alex and Brett Harris and it was truly inspiring. It was full of great stories from the authors’ lives and challenges to live differently than the world. It is a book I think every teen and young adult should read. Here is a list of all the books in our Young Adult section and their themes.

Thriving In College by Alex Chediak - Geared towards college and university students, this book lists common mistakes made by Christians in college. It gives practical advice on how to not just survive but thrive at college.

Do Hard Things by Alex and Brett Harris - Written by two 19-year-old brothers, this book looks into the low expectations that people put on the youth in our world. How, if given the chance and challenge, even teens and young adults can do great things ad make a difference in this world.

UnChristian by David Kinnaman - This book looks into what the next generation really thinks of Christians and why. Why young people today are using words such as “hypocritical” and “judgemental” to describe Christians.

The Last Christian Generation by Josh McDowell - This book looks into this next generation of Christians in our churches. How these young people are distorting the truth and reality of what it really means to be a Christian and what we can do to save this generation.

The Years That Count by Rosalind Rinker - A small books challenging teens and young adults to think for themselves, discover who they really are, and think about what they genuinely believe.

Goodbye Generation by David Sawler - This book looks into the generation of young people who once went to church, but as they grew older, left and why these young people are leaving the church or their faith completely.

Souls In Transition by Christian Smith and Patricia Snell - How do young people’s perception of Christianity shape what they genuinely believe and who they grow up to be? This book looks at the distractions and different viewpoints in today’s world that shape teens and young adults and how these influences effect them as they grow into adulthood.

Most of these young adult books end with a “call to action”. This is usually in the form of a challenge or thought for you to think on and ponder over in regard to what you just read. It is meant to help guide you into being a young adult that lives a life honoring to God.

Conclusion

Though these books are meant for teens and young adults, they can be read by anyone. The themes and messages they have will challenge people in any walk of life. Living your life for God does not just start when you are “old enough” and on the flip side it doesn’t just stop as you mature. It is a life-long journey.

1 Timothy 4:12

"Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity."
